Hand-made by Chris Smith himself, Ignition is a key that can penetrate any borrowed object – a bill, a sugar packet, even a spectator’s sleeve. Yet, when you rip the key out, there’s no hole, no rip and no damage! You can pass the key and the borrowed object IMMEDIATELY for examination – there’s only one key. They won’t find anything because Ignition is a REAL CAR KEY that can withstand the closest inspection – even by a locksmith!
Ignition is always on you. When not in use, it travels inconspicuously on your key chain. But, when you’re ready to perform, there’s no fumbling – just detach it from its quick release carabiner (included) and you’re set to perform.
The handling is so easy, anyone can learn it in minutes. There’s even a quick start method that will get you performing immediately.
Ignition can be performed anywhere – surrounded. It’s good for table hoppers, magicians on-the-go, and those spur of the moment situations when someone asks to ‘see something’.
Ignition comes with an instructional DVD that teaches 3 different routines:
- Key through bill
- Key through sugar packet
- Key through shirt

Danny –
I’m not gonna be all fluffy and say it’s great, nor be a troll and say it’s horrible, I’m merely stating a detailed review of the product itself
My background is that of a regular performer at the magic castle for 7 years so I am no novice when I am writing.
Getting to the point…
Pros:
Gimmick:
Very pleased, and is made to last. Simple and not much practice is needed to get used to it. Very ingenious, and I still fool myself with it
Video: Covered many nice ideas and subtleties to perform with your key. My fav. being to perform the trick with your key still hooked to your keychain for a more organic “feel”. Love it.
Cons:
Performance:
You WILL get caught eventually. I have performed for people who have seen magic before and get caught right away. Your restoration is NOT enough misdirection to cover “it”. This works with people who have never seen a magic trick before, because they have no idea what to look for. *I will mention a solution at the end to fix the clean up problem that the DVD did NOT cover.
Video:
Does not cover clean up!!! With money effects changing a to 0 bill, you CAN get away with it, yet when you perform this, there is a “Hm, there is something fishy and get caught.
I feel a trick, no matter how good the principle, nor how clever, nor how good it looks, is useless if a spectator catches on, catches you, or suspects you of “something”. That being said:
My solution: (If pro magic lets me post this) Firstly, this routine is NOT meant to be an opener as firstly you have to demonstrate yourself as a magician. Opening with “may I borrow your money…?” doesn’t seem very logical. Closing with it is a HUGE mistake. It is to be place in the MIDDLE of your act. The Clean-up: after performing this trick, since spectators are occupied with your props and can’t take back the objects to clean up (which means your dead meat in most cases), I would ditch “it” while casually taking out another prop ( a pack of cards) and say “I’d like to finish with one last thing…” leaving you clean.
I sincerely hopes this helps all magicians who consider buying this effect. Though this trick will never go in the bottom drawer for me. It’s too useful. haha :p
