Hand-made by Chris Smith himself, Ignition is a key that can penetrate any borrowed object – a bill, a sugar packet, even a spectator’s sleeve. Yet, when you rip the key out, there’s no hole, no rip and no damage! You can pass the key and the borrowed object IMMEDIATELY for examination – there’s only one key. They won’t find anything because Ignition is a REAL CAR KEY that can withstand the closest inspection – even by a locksmith!
Ignition is always on you. When not in use, it travels inconspicuously on your key chain. But, when you’re ready to perform, there’s no fumbling – just detach it from its quick release carabiner (included) and you’re set to perform.
The handling is so easy, anyone can learn it in minutes. There’s even a quick start method that will get you performing immediately.
Ignition can be performed anywhere – surrounded. It’s good for table hoppers, magicians on-the-go, and those spur of the moment situations when someone asks to ‘see something’.
Ignition comes with an instructional DVD that teaches 3 different routines:
- Key through bill
- Key through sugar packet
- Key through shirt

Just rebought this for my Grandson who is getting into magic. Performed it 8 times at a walk a round yesterday to great acclaim.
So how do u end clean. I take the bill and say yes i’m A magician but also work for the FBI—tongue in cheek. My job is to check for counterfeit bills. Do the penetration and then say “If bill not torn it means it counterfeit so I need to turn it over to the FBI”. With that after I show bill not torn I start to place in my pocket where I ditch the gimmick! Amusing routine and end clean.
For the record not my idea but read it in another review.

Hey there,
Pros:
Let me start off by saying that the gimmick is very well made. It should last a lifetime. Furthermore it is a real magician fooler because most magicians know about the classic pen thru bill but they don’t expect this version so its deceptive for lay people as well. My favorite thing about this thing is that it is self contained which means you wear it on your key chain and you don’t need to carry extra parts in your pockets. Also you can use anything like bill, a paper,…
Cons:
You have to ditch something but this is rarely a problem.
I performed this trick 100+ times and it gets very good reactions. The only problem I have is that sometimes people want to see my hand with the gimmick. So I would recommend this to people who can a decent audience managment.
I hope you get something out of this review and let me tell you: Although the price is high, the gimmick is worth 120$.
Cheers
Philipp

I had this on my wish list for quite some time. I found it attractive because I like every day items for my style of magic, which is mostly casually at the pub and/or certain walk around and table hopping opportunities where quality props should appear genuine and not tacky.
While the gaff impressed me, I have had spectators question it’s authenticity asking if it was a toy. The teaching is straight forwardand method easy to learn. However it is only a brief moment of magic with a fairly high price tag, luckily it s in the cool box often. (Not sure if MagicSmith is coming from the same school of thought as Gregory Wilson. Wilson has stated on Exact Change that is was highly priced to keep it out of the hands of the YouTube monkey s paws..or something to that effect.)
I really wanted to use this with Departure by MagicSmith but found that they are difficult to manage together. I am more pleased now that I’ve fiddled with the handling of the two effects a bit than when I wrote the Departure review but have found it is a nice way to hide the fact that Departure is not fully examinable. After the display I move right into this routine and it works fine when the two props are’nt uhm…stuck.
I think any magician with basic performance skill should find this handy in day to day preparations for the inevitable impromptu. The gimmick should last a long time, that is if you can keep it together and are aware.
